In “Let It Go”, Elsa’s transformation was due to her own conscious effort, her own conscious choices. She chose to run away from Arendelle. But in “Show Yourself”, Elsa’s dress is transformed not by her own hands, but by the magic of Ahtohallan when she takes her place as the fifth spirit, when she steps on to the centerpiece between the diamonds representing the four elemental spirits. When singing “Let It Go”, notice that Elsa transforms her dress herself, by her own magic, with her own hands, and at her own will. Look carefully, and you’ll see that there is a significant difference between them. One of the things that shows how these songs complement and contrast each other is the types of dress transformations that Elsa undergoes. In this analysis, I described “Let It Go” and “Show Yourself” as being like the two halves of a whole circle regarding Elsa’s journey of freedom and self-acceptance, that “Show Yourself” finished what “Let It Go” started. What is there in Frozen II that I won’t ever be able to discuss, analyze, and write about in so much depth, especially with “Show Yourself”? □
